Chapter Philanthropy
​Kappa Lambda is incredibly fortunate to have a local Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Memphis: LeBonheur Children's Medical Center. Each month, chapter members volunteer at LeBonheur Children's Hospital as well as the FedEx Family House that works in conjunction with LeBohneur.
Our Annual Spaghetti Dinner benefiting Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is always impactful and fun. We serve spaghetti, salad, and dessert while also hosting a silent auction to raise funds. We also hear personal stories by some former LeBonheur patients. In 2019, the event raised over $9,425 for CMNH. We feel honored to have a Children's Miracle Network Hospital here in Memphis with us, allowing for more hands-on philanthropic work. We are lucky that we are able to do so much for a philanthropy we are so passionate about.
Our annual spaghetti dinner is held every spring semester and our newly added event, Bonnamu, is held in the fall semester. This year, Bonnamu was held at Newby's on Highland Strip, with fun music, good food, and fun!
The Kappa Lambda chapter of Phi Mu is also involved with a campus wide philanthropy, Up 'til Dawn, a fund-raising program that offers college students a chance to help raise funds and awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Phi Mu has executive members and morale captains involved. Each year the chapter comes together to raise money for the children receiving treatment at St. Jude. At this past years Up 'til Dawn Finale, Kappa Lambda received the award for the Top Fundraising Sorority at the University of Memphis and one of our teams were in the top 3 fundraisers nationwide. Altogether, Phi Mu Kappa Lambda raised over $24,000!
In addition to raising money for CMNH and St. Jude, the Kappa Lambda chapter of Phi Mu participates in a variety of service projects in our community. This past year, the whole chapter participated in helping at a women's shelter by cleaning up the shelter's garden, working to restore Astor College Prep School, volunteering with Memphis Animal Shelter, packaging up lunch bags for the homeless in the downtown Memphis area then delivering the lunches by bicycle.
Even through the COVID-19 pandemic, Phi Mu Kappa Lambda has been working hard to provide support to our community and national philanthropy through t-shirt sales, letter writing, toy making, and more. We have stayed involved with St. Jude and the FedEx Family house as well during this difficult time where things seem so spread out.
